How to start a FaceTime video call

JW Automation — for iPhone, iPad, or Mac.

  1. Open the green FaceTime app on your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Tap the + (plus) or New FaceTime button at the top.
  3. Type the person’s phone number or email address they use for Apple ID.
  4. Tap their name when it appears in the list.
  5. Tap the video camera icon to start a video call (not the phone icon — that is audio only).
  6. Wait for them to answer. You will see yourself on screen while it rings.
  7. During the call: tap the screen to show buttons. Red phone hangs up. Camera flip switches front/back camera.
  8. To end the call, tap the red phone button.
First time? Make sure you are on Wi-Fi or have good cell signal. If FaceTime is grayed out, go to Settings → FaceTime and turn FaceTime on.
